NSF scholarship for USSP
The National Science Foundation has recently provided ten scholarships for U.S. graduate students to participate in the 2010 USSP. The widely circulated advertisement with relevant details is duplicated below:
The 7th Urbino Summer School in Paleoclimatology (10-29 July 2010) will provide graduate students with an intensive program on reconstructing the history and dynamics of climate through an integrated series of lectures, investigations, case studies, and field and laboratory analyses. To promote U.S. graduate student participation in this international experience, the National Science Foundation has funded ten scholarships for U.S. carrier airfare, stipend, and course expenses (including lodging). Interested U.S. graduate students should email a CV and 1-2 page statement, including how the program would benefit their professional development as a researcher and educator, to nsfusspscholarship@gmail.com.
In addition, students should arrange to have two reference letters, one from their primary adviser, emailed directly to the above address. Deadline for applications is 20 May 2010.
If you would like to be considered for an NSF USSP scholarship, then please do BOTH steps below as soon as possible:
- Email the above requested information to nsfusspscholarship@gmail.com (Deadline is 20 May).
- Subscribe and register for the USSP, ignoring any stated registration deadlines.
If you have already registered for the USSP and would like to be considered for an NSF scholarship, then please complete the first step above.
If you are awarded a scholarship, I will arrange for payment of all your course and lodging fees directly from NSF funds. I will also work immediately with you to arrange/purchase/reimburse reasonable airfare via a U.S. carrier and deliver a $500 travel advance before your departure.
If you have any questions, please send them to nsfusspscholarship@gmail.com. Thank you for your interest in the USSP and we look forward to your scholarship application.
Regards, Stephen Schellenberg, USSP Co-Organizer
